When visiting North Vancouver one of the unique places to visit is the Royal Hudson Steam Train, which was originally owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway, which included a group of semi streamlined 464 Hudson steam locomotives. The steam locomotives were in use from 1937 until 1960, and four have been preserved, with another that is used for excursion service.
The locomotive has been reworked and with the 2010 Olympics coming to the area the plans for the locomotive is to be used during the event, transporting people back to the past while in North Vancouver for the games.
This is the perfect place to visit for the person that has an interest in the trains of yesteryear and take a train tour of the tracks on a locomotive that puffs out steam like was seen many years ago. The tour goes along the Howe Sound Corridor and as far as Squamish before returning with the round trip taking approximately six hours.
This is one of the thrilling ways to spend a day while staying in North Vancouver with sites that can be seen from the train, the dining car and the feeling of being taken back to the past when train travel was the best way to travel from one location to another. It is also one of the ways to see the beauty of the area that passes by the open air windows, and it is a trip that is fun for children of all ages as well as the adults.
One of the other things that can be done is to take a boat back from Squamish to see a different view of the area with a tour guide that will point out the sea life and the different areas of land.
